I went once, could not stand it, Mexico is miles better. Anytime out of the hotel was constantly spent being hassled by locals for dollars. They like to give it all the vibe about being relaxed and the Bob Marley shit but in reality they are all on the take there and it became prety tiresome.

joe royal - Have a look at the Rex Grenadian in Grenada. Lovely place and you might be able to get a week for your budget

Went to Jamaica last year, and spent half the time in Ocho Rios and half in Port Antonio. Didnt go anywhere near any of those horrific gated community/all inclusive places that litter the coast.

I just hired a house on the beach in Ochi and then stayed in small hotel in Port Antonio. It was an amazing holiday. Beautiful beaches and waterfalls etc. Never felt threatened, just that everyone is happy to talk to you and have some banter. Some want to sell you stuff, but we were never hassled. Amazing food, rum n ting and yeah, you will drown in weed if you so wish. Hardly any whiteys about as I guess they are all quivering in fear inside their beach compounds.

It's next door to Hedonism II, the 'clothes optional' swingers resort. Seriously it is, go check it out.

If the missus goes missing one evening she'll probably have wondered over there where you'll find four young muscular black pool boys invading her.

You''l be next.

Re: Montego Bay
Mo Bay is probably the worst choice if visiting Jamaica!

My advice for Jamaica is Negril, which is superb though a long bumpy bus journey from Mo Bay (I don't suppose it's improved since I was last there!)

Negril has a fantastic 7 mile long beach with lots of nice hotels backing on to it. Relatively safe & you can mix with the locals, but always be on your guard. Nowhere in the Caribbean is not as safe as it was a few years ago!

Barbados is probably one of the safest places in the WI, but not really my cup of tea. It's a bit "Costa del Caribbean" with lots of British tourists trying to outdo each other & a bit too manicured for me

I used to have a villa in Tobago (for about 10 years) & the locals were lovely, but now it's a highly dangerous place to be

Granada would be worth a look though

Went to the Royalton White Sands last year - got no hassle at all, not once. Lovely place, perfect for doing absolutely nothing at all.

Lots of loud Canadians on wedding trips though.

Re: Montego Bay
We went there in May. The worst thing is the yanks. 90% of visitors are yanks. Avoid the craft market/village like the plague. My 28 year old step daughter was deliberately separated from us and it was a big panic til we eventually caught up with them. Everything is horrendously overpriced.

A lot of the top hotels have Range Rover sports with the words "Pursuit Vehicle' along the side.

Kingston is a thousand times worse. Ocho Rhos is just about habitable.

Ganja is offered everywhere. It is legal to have 2 ozs of it on your person.

Benidorm is a thousand times better - and I hate benidorm
